Thanks to everyone that came out for our season opener.  A good crowd on hand despite the cool weather and a rainy forecast.  We will be back in action on Saturday, April 13th for Ray Cook’s Spring Nationals ($6,000 to win for Super Late Models), American Modified Series ($3,000 to win) in their first visit to Smoky Mountain, along with Street Stock and Mini Stock/FWD divisions.  Thanks again fans, drivers, crews, and track workers!!!  We couldn’t do this without each and every one of you!

Also, NEW for 2013…  Smoky Mountain Speedway t-shirts featuring the entire 2013 event schedule.  These will be available at each event through out the season.  We have short sleeve t-shirts, long sleeve t-shirts, and hoodies ranging in sizes from youth small through adult 4XL.  Be sure to pick one up before you leave the track on your next visit!!

All Systems a go for Saturday March 23rd

Looking closely at the weather over the pasts 48 hours and speaking with Owners, Officials, and SAS Series Director. We fill Saturdays threatening weather looks to be moving away from the Maryville Area. We are going to give every attempt to get this Season Opener in, but in the event weather is not on our side a rain date has been scheduled for Saturday, March 30th. We will revisit and make a final decision tomorrow morning at 9am. But as of 1pm on Friday “Rockin with the Stars” SAS Season Opener is a GO!! Please help us by passing the word along!

Rockin’ with the Stars will open busy 2013 Schedule for Smoky Mountain on March 23rd

HUNTSVILLE, AL (March 14, 2013)—The Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series will open a busy slate on the Smoky Mountain Speedway schedule during the running of the WIMZ 103.5 Rockin’ with the Stars 40 paying $5,000 to win for the SAS Late Models on Saturday evening March 23rd.

 

There will be a complete program of Practice, A & B Group Time Trials, PPM Racing Products Last Chance Showdowns and the 40-lap $5,000 to win / $300 to start main event. Also in action will be the Crate Late Models paying $1,000 to win while the Street Stocks will race for $300 to win.

 

During the series’ visits in 2012, Vic Hill of Mosheim, TN picked up two of the three series stops on April 14thand June 16th while Billy Ogle Jr. of Knoxville, TN picked up the September 22nd event win.

Smoky Mountain Season Opener – ONE MONTH AWAY!

One Month From Today, Smoky Mountain Speedway will open the gates for the 2013 racing season with a schedule that has gained the attention of car owners, drivers, and fans from all over the country!  After just returning from the UNOH DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park, the WoO Late Model series event scheduled for Friday, April 26th was much talked about by WoO series officials as well as WoO series regulars and other national stars!  This promises to be an event that you do not want to miss!!

Smoky Mountain Speedway releases very aggressive 2013 Schedule of Events

MARYVILLE, TN (February 7, 2013)—Officials with the Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, TN have released the 13-race schedule of events for the 2013 season which promises to be the largest season on record for the track located just minutes from Knoxville, TN. The schedule features six different Late Model tours along with Sprint Car and Open Wheel Modified action.

The season will open on Saturday March 23rd with the annual Rockin’ with the Stars event featuring the Cars and Stars of the Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series gunning for the $5,000 top prize in the 103.5 WIMZ sponsored event. The Southern All Stars also make two return visits on June 15 for the Tennessee RV Big Daddy 500 paying $5,000 to win and September 21 for the 3rd Annual King of the Mountain event paying $5,000 to win.

Ray Cook’s new Spring Nationals Series will compete on Saturday Night April 13th for $6,000 to win sponsored by Food City. The Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series will also make their second-ever visit on Friday Night July 26th paying $5,300 to win as part of the mid-summer two-week tour.

The World of Outlaws Late Model Series will make their first visit to Smoky Mountain Speedway since 2004 on Friday Night April 26th paying $10,000 to win as part of the opening of a double-header weekend WoO East-Tennessee swing with Tazewell Speedway the very next night.

On Saturday Night May 4th the United Sprint Car Series (USCS) will make their lone season visit paying $3,000 to win. That weekend is part of ‘Thunder in the Smokies’ sponsored by UJUNKDIT.COM where the Sprint Cars make their second-ever visits to 411 Motor Speedway on Friday Night and Smoky Mountain on Saturday Night.

The Ultimate Super Late Model Series will make two visits to Smoky Mountain first on Saturday Night May 25th paying $4,000 to win in the Ultimate Showdown. Their next visit is on Saturday July 6th for the Firecracker 500 paying $5,000 to win.

The Southern Regional Racing Series will make three series visits first on Saturday June 29th for their SRRS Speedweek paying $3,000 to win sponsored by Stanley Best Heating & Air. They also make return visits on Saturday August 10th paying $3,000 to win for the annual Ole Smoky Moonshine Classic and Saturday November 2nd for the Second Annual Triple Crown/Late Model Mania event paying $3,000 to win.

The American Modified Series will also make a single-season visit to Smoky Mountain Speedway on April 13th paying $3,000 to win during the Spring Nationals Super Late Model event.

The track will host their only un-sanctioned Super Late Model special event on Friday/Saturday October 25/26 as the NAPA Auto Parts sponsored Trick-or-Treat weekend commences paying $7,500 to win for the Super Late Models.

The Crate Late Models will have eleven dates on the schedule with special events on April 26 paying $1,500 to win and October 25/26 paying $2,000 to win. The other ten events either pay $800 or $1,000 to win. The Limited Late Models will have three events on the schedule paying $1,500 to win on May 4th, $1,000 to win on July 26th and $2,000 to win on November 2nd. The Street Stocks will compete 12 times this season along with three Mini Stock events. The Southern Mod Lites will have three visits on May 4th, September 21st and Friday October 25th while the Topless Mods will have two visits on June 15th and October 25/26.

Please Pray for John Griffin, his mother passed away Tuesday

Irene Human Griffin, born in the valley of the mountains at Mill Creek, Tennessee near Sunbright on July 8, 1919, the ninth of twelve children of Edward Franklin and Maude Brock Human, passed away peacefully at her home January 29, 2013. Mrs. Griffin was a member of First Baptist Church, Kingston and a sixty plus year member of Sunbright Chapter No. 303OES. She was an extraordinary mother, caretaker, cook and quilt maker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Willie, Paul, William, Amos(Gladys) and Orville(Kitty) Human; her sisters: Florence (Larcey) Skeens, Grace(Lemmie) Summers, Opal(Earl) Stringfield, Reba(Leslie) Sexton, Glena (Roddie) Davis, and Imogene Human; the father of her children, George W. Griffin and her son-in-law: Wayne Freels and several nieces and nephews.

Left to cherish her memory are children: Shirlene Freels, Diana (Martin) Cash and John Edward Griffin. Her grand and great grandchildren include Stephanie (Michael) Puckett, Jordin, Abby and Jarrett, Martin Cash, Jr., Ashley (Billy) Ward, Katelyn and Nathan, Aaron (Jana) Freels and Andrew (Tonya) and “little” Andi LeAnn Freels. She leaves several nieces and nephews and many friends.

The family will receive friends Friday, February 1, 2013 from 6:00pm to 7:00pm at Schubert Funeral Home Sunbright. Funeral Services will follow with Rev. Rod Garrett officiating. A graveside service will be held Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 1:00pm in the Sunbright Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to New Midway Baptist Church playground equipment, Kingston, Tennessee.
