Rain washes out World of Outlaws Late Model Series visit to Duck River

Tour now heads to Tazewell Speedway for Saturday Night $10,000-to-win event

WHEEL, TN – April 11, 2014 – Just after Group “A” of Ohlins Shocks Time Trials ended and Group “B” began, so did Mother Nature at Duck River Raceway Park.

Heavy rains washed out Friday Night’s World of Outlaws Late Model Series visit to Duck River Raceway Park located outside of Wheel, Tenn. “It’s unfortunate for the fans and drivers who traveled so far to see the World of Outlaws stars,” stated Series Director Tim Christman. “We hate it for track owner Bob (Harris) who had a record crowd tonight as well,” stated Christman again. The event will be made up on Sunday Night May 18th which now sets up a triple-header of action with 201 Speedway in Sitka, Ky on Friday May 16th then Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, Tenn on Saturday Night May 17th and back to Duck River Raceway Park the following night.

Thirty-eight cars entered the event and Group “A” of Ohlins Shocks Time Trials had completed. Shane Clanton of Zebulon was the fastest car in Group “A” with a 11.862 second lap. Clanton unofficially lowered the track record in Qualifying. A complete new program will be ran when the series returns on May 18th.

The WoO LMS will be back in action tomorrow night (April 12th) at Gary Hall’s Tazewell (Tenn.) Speedway for another 50-lap $10,000 to win event.

Billy Ogle Jr. Claims Old Man’s Garage Spring Nationals Series Victory at Smoky Mountain Speedway

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

By Chris Tilley

MARYVILLE, TN (April 5, 2014)—Billy Ogle Jr. of Knoxville, TN became the 12th different winner in series history as he claimed the $6,000 first place prize during the Old Man’s Garage Spring Nationals Series by Schaeffer’s Oil at Smoky Mountain Speedway on Saturday Night April 5th.

Ogle took over the point after race leader Chris Madden had contact with a lapped car on the 16th circuit causing him to spin and slam the turn one wall. That put Ogle to the lead for the remaining laps. Ogle drove to Victory Lane in the Blount Motorsports, Blount Excavating, Explosive Specialists and Massey Electric sponsored Vic Hill Racing Engines powered Rocket Chassis to the event win. Ogle became the third different winner this season in three events.

Vic Hill of Mosheim, TN, who started second, finished second in the Landair Transport and Pilot Travel Centers Vic Hill Racing Engines powered Warrior Race Car. Skip Arp of Georgetown, TN charged his way from the 11th starting spot to finish third in the Stanley Best Heating & Air sponsored GRT Race Car.

Four yellow flags slowed the event. The first caution came on lap five as Chris Wilson slowed in turn four. The next yellow would come out on lap 16 for Chris Madden’s hard contact with the wall in turn one. The lap-17 yellow would be for Tommy Kerr spinning in turn four after almost making contact with Casey Roberts, the car ahead of him trying to get slowed down on the bottom of the apron of the track. The final caution of the night would be on lap 35 as Cory Hedgecock slowed in turn three.

The Old Man’s Garage Spring Nationals Series by Schaeffer’s Oil will be back in action on Thursday Night April 10th at Tri-County Race Track in Brasstown, NC paying $4,000 to win.

Further information on the Old Man’s Garage Spring Nationals Series by Schaeffer’s Oil can be found by visiting the official series website located at www.southernnationalsseries.com .

Kyle Strickler Snags Spring Nationals Summit Racing Equipment American Modified Series Win at Smoky Mountain Speedway

American Modified Series
P.O. Box 1741
Glasgow, KY 42142
www.americanmodifiedseries.com

Maryville, TN- April 5, 2014- The Summit Racing Equipment American Modified Series returned to action on Saturday evening at Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, TN for the track’s 2nd Annual Spring Nationals presented by East Tennessee Auto Outlet and Kyle Strickler of Mooresville, NC would take the victory worth $3,000 and pick up his first-ever win with the series.  The win by Strickler would come behind the wheel of his Cedar Peaks Entertainment/JRI Shocks/BSB Manufacturing/TomCat Performance/SRI/Stock Car Steel sponsored #8 BeakBuilt Chassis.

Strickler’s victory was worth $3,000 to the Mooresville, NC and also marked the first ever series win on the tour for a driver from the state of North Carolina.  The event was the 40th event in the history of the tour and Strickler’s victory made him the 24th different winner in series history.

Strickler would take the lead at the drop of the green flag, with Nick Hoffman, Brian Shaw, and Trent Young giving chase.  A pair of early cautions would slow the action, with one of those being for second place Hoffman after he stopped on the track on lap 3.  Hoffman would pit and return to action, while fourth place running Young would pull pitside and be done for the evening.  The restart would see Shaw snatch the lead away from Strickler, but only for one circuit, as Strickler resumed his position at the point on lap 5.  By lap 10, Strickler continued to hold the top spot, with Shaw, Matt Cooper, and Bryan Barber in pursuit.  Cooper would get by Shaw for second and would close in on Strickler and by lap 20 would pressure Strickler for the top spot.  One final caution slowed the action on lap 24 and the restart would see Strickler maintain the race lead and take the victory in the event.  Cooper would have to settle for runner-up honors, while Barber would complete the podium finishers.  Hoffman would recover and drive back to a fourth place effort, while Shaw completed the top five.

The remainder of the top ten finishers at Smoky Mountain Speedway’s 2nd Annual Spring Nationals  were hard-charger award winner Tyler Nicely, Keith Smith, Taylor Cook, Lucas Lee, and Victor Lee.  The 35 lap, $3,000 to win event would be slowed by six cautions.

In preliminary action, Bryan Barber would be the Quick Car Racing Product top qualifier among 25 entries at 13.853 seconds.  Summit Racing Equipment heat one went to Nick Hoffman, while Brian Shaw scored the win in Wiles Driveshafts heat two.  Hypercoils heat three went to Kyle Strickler, with Trent Young winning Frankland Racing Equipment heat four.  The Stealth Racewear B-Main would be taken by Tyler Nicely, while series provisional starting positions went to Ricky Tinch and Tony Spoon.

The next event for the Summit Racing Equipment American Modified Series is set to take place on Friday April 11 at Moler Raceway Park in Williamsburg, OH.  The event will be 30 laps in distance, paying $1,500 to win and $200 to start.
