Less than Two Months Away from the Tennessee Tip-Off!

(January 8, 2020) We are less than 2 months away from our first race of the season when the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series returns on Saturday, March 7 for the 'Tennessee Tip-Off.' We want to share some updates as well. Construction is still ongoing for the new restrooms. Everything should be finished by the first race as long as the weather cooperates. For every event in 2020, kids 11 and under will be admitted free in the grandstands.

The $12,000 to win World of Outlaws Late Model Series race on March 7 is expected to draw many of the biggest names in the sport. Defending series champion Brandon Sheppard leads a brigade of Outlaws drivers to the 4/10-mile speedway. Chris Madden, Scott Bloomquist, Ricky Weiss, Darrell Lanigan, Cade Dillard, Dennis Erb Jr., Brent Larson, Chase Junghans, Boom Briggs, Blake Spencer, Ashton Winger, Kody Evans, and Matt Cosner are other series regulars anticipated for the Tennessee Tip-Off.

Other drivers expected are defending race winner Jimmy Owens, Jonathan Davenport, Dale McDowell, Josh Richards, Mike Marlar, Brandon Overton, Shanon Buckingham, Vic Hill, Donald McIntosh, Robby Moses, Dakotah Knuckles, Ryan King, and Cory Hedgecock. There will be an open practice on Friday, March 6 from 6:00 until 9:00 for all classes except super late models. Additional details will be posted soon!

Smoky Mountain Speedway Unveils 2020 Schedule of Events!

Click to Enlarge!(November 25, 2019) Smoky Mountain Speedway was given the name of America's Special Event Late Model Track by Dirt on Dirt CEO, Michael Rigsby, and that name continues to describe the outline and plans for the 2020 racing season at the historic East Tennessee oval. As in recent seasons, national and regional touring series will highlight the schedule, which will feature 9 events over 8 weekends beginning in March and winding up in October. Track owner, Roger Sellers, will lead the way into 2020 with continued improvements to the facility that began in 2019. First, and most notable, will be new restrooms in the main grandstands as you enter the general admission area. New grass has been sown in the infield of the track as well as in the pit spectator parking area to help with appearance for opening weekend. A fresh coat of paint and some other projects are planned for over the winter months as well.

The 2019 season was an excellent inaugural season for the management team at Smoky Mountain. We are really thankful for the drivers, race teams, sponsors, and fans that chose to support our first season at the helm. We will continue to bring special events to the area, but we also want to continue to invest in the local racers in the area. We had great support from the limited and sportsman drivers in 2019 that enabled us to reward them at season's end with great contingency awards and some cash as well for a token of our appreciation for those drivers. We plan to provide a similar points package again in 2020 as well as some higher purse events for those classes. Complete plans and race dates for those classes will be released soon.
