Speedway Unveils 2020 Schedule of Events!
25, 2019) Smoky Mountain Speedway was given the name
of America's Special Event Late Model Track by Dirt on Dirt CEO,
Michael Rigsby, and that name continues to describe the outline
and plans for the 2020 racing season at the historic East Tennessee
oval. As in recent seasons, national and regional touring series
will highlight the schedule, which will feature 9 events over
8 weekends beginning in March and winding up in October. Track
owner, Roger Sellers, will lead the way into 2020 with continued
improvements to the facility that began in 2019. First, and most
notable, will be new restrooms in the main grandstands as you
enter the general admission area. New grass has been sown in the
infield of the track as well as in the pit spectator parking area
to help with appearance for opening weekend. A fresh coat of paint
and some other projects are planned for over the winter months
The 2019 season was an excellent inaugural season for the management
team at Smoky Mountain. We are really thankful for the drivers,
race teams, sponsors, and fans that chose to support our first
season at the helm. We will continue to bring special events to
the area, but we also want to continue to invest in the local
racers in the area. We had great support from the limited and
sportsman drivers in 2019 that enabled us to reward them at season's
end with great contingency awards and some cash as well for a
token of our appreciation for those drivers. We plan to provide
a similar points package again in 2020 as well as some higher
purse events for those classes. Complete plans and race dates
for those classes will be released soon.
