Weather Postpones TN Tipoff Classic at Smoky Mountain Speedway until April 24-25

MARYVILLE, TN (March 11, 2015)—After heavy rainfall earlier this week and the National Weather Service predicting more significant amounts of rainfall throughout the weekend, officials with the Smoky Mountain Speedway notified promoter Ray Cook of the Old Man’s Garage Spring Nationals Series that they have decided to re-schedule the Tennessee Tipoff Classic weekend from its original date of March 13 and 14 to its new date of April 24 and 25.

The new weekend dates, however, will feature a complete new format and purse.

On Friday Night April 24, the Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series will sanction Night One of the Tennessee Tipoff Classic weekend for a 40-lap $5,000-to-win points paying event. On Saturday Night April 25, the Old Man’s Garage Spring Nationals Series will sanction Night Two of the double-header racing a 50-lap $6,000-to-win points paying event. There will be an open practice session on Thursday Night April 23rd.

More information will be released on the Tennessee Tipoff Classic weekend at Smoky Mountain Speedway in the coming weeks regarding purses, support classes and ticket prices. Please log on to www.SmokyMountainSpeedway.com for further details.

The new opening weekend for the Old Man’s Garage Spring Nationals Series will be a Kentucky triple-header on April 2, 3 and 4 as the tour will open action on Thursday April 2nd at the 201 Speedway in Sitka, Ky. during the Johnny Salyer Memorial event paying $4,000-to-win, then the series heads to the Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City, Ky. on Friday Night April 3rd for the Third Annual Spring Showdown paying $4,000-to-win then on Saturday Night April 4th the series will venture to Florence Speedway in Union, Ky. for the 50-lap $5,000-to-win weekend finale.

The Southern Nationals Bonus Series presented by Collins Signs will open action next weekend on March 20 at Cleveland (TN) Speedway and March 21 at Boyd’s (GA) Speedway, both $4,000-to-win races.

We have received a lot of input from Drivers about the Sportsman rules. An amendment has been made allowing Wartburg cars to race, but they will have to weigh in at 2500 pounds if their heads are larger than 170 cc.

BRASSTOWN, NC (February 22, 2015)—Smoky Mountain Speedway located in Maryville, TN is gearing up for the largest weekend of dirt track racing for the 2015 season. The Ray Cook-promoted Old Man’s Garage Spring Nationals Series presented by Schaeffer’s Oil will sanction the Second Annual Tennessee Tipoff Classic weekend on March 12-14th as the three-day weekend gets kicked off by an open practice session on Thursday Night March 12th from 6:00-9:00 pm. The Spring Nationals Series Late Models will take to the track on Friday Night March 13th competing for $5,000-to-win (40 laps) while the finale event on Saturday Night March 14th will pay $10,000-to-win (60 laps) making the possibility of one driver walking away with $15,000 in first place money at the weekend’s end.

 

On Thursday Night March 12th there will be an open practice for all divisions from 6:00 pm through 9:00 pm. The cost is $5.00 for stands while Pit Passes will be $25.00. With all paid pit admission prices, an after race pit party will be held with a Meet & Greet session of the Spring Nationals drivers. Complimentary drinks and snacks will be served complimentary of Smoky Mountain Speedway. The Pit Party after practice is only with a paid pit pass.

 

On Friday Night March 13th the Spring Nationals Late Models along with the Limited Late Models ($1,500 to win) and the Sportsman ($750 to win) will also be on the racing card. The Pit Gates will open at 1:00 pm with the Grandstands & Tier Parking opening at 4:00 pm. The Driver’s Meeting will be at 6:00 pm with Hot Laps to follow shortly after. Adult Pit Passes will be $35.00 with Tier Parking $25.00 and Grandstands $20.00. Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, Ga. claimed the 2014 Night One event of the Tennessee Tipoff Classic.

 

On Saturday Night March 14th the Spring Nationals Late Model finale along with the Crate Late Models ($1,500 to win) and the Street Stock ($750 to win) will also be on the agenda for the night. The Pit Gates will open at 1:00 pm with the Grandstands & Tier Parking opening at 4:00 pm. The Driver’s Meeting will be at 6:00 pm with Hot Laps to follow shortly after. Adult Pit Passes will be $40.00 with Tier Parking $30.00 and Grandstands $25.00. Chris Madden of Gray Court, S.C. claimed the 2014 Night Two event of the Tennessee Tipoff Classic.

 

The Super Late Model Series tire rule for the weekend will be as follows: Hoosier 1350, 1450 and 1600 along with the American Racer 48, 53 and 56 compounds allowed.

 

Other Notes of Interest for the weekend:

Dry camping will be available for $20.00 at the track which is good for all weekend. The Official Host Hotel will be the Hilton Knoxville Airport located at 2001 Alcoa Highway in Alcoa, TN 37701. The rate available to Smoky Mountain Speedway customers will be $89.00 per night with two queen or one king sized rooms available. Call (865) 970-4300 and patrons must mention Smoky Mountain Speedway for the discounted rate. Reserved seating will not be available. Golf Carts and ATV’s may be used with an All-Access (Pit Pass) by anyone over 16 years of age. The Gates will be cleared daily for Armband/ticket check. The Smoky Mountain Speedway reserves the right to search Race Haulers and/or campers. Breakfast will be served at the track on Friday and Saturday morning.
